Jason and I had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful evening together tonight. We were invited by Mom and Mike to the Open Arms benefit dessert. It was an amazing, enlightening time.
For those of you that don't already know, Open Arms is a pregnancy care center. They deal mostly with young women who are experiencing unplanned or unwanted pregnancies. They are truly, truly reaching the world for Jesus. They are, as one speaker this evening put it, protecting those who cannot protect themselves, the babies.
The most exciting part of the evening for me was when one young woman shared her story with us. She shared about how she mistakenly called Open Arms to schedule an abortion. When the lady on the phone informed her that they didn't perform abortions there, she quickly ended the phone call but not before the woman on the other end told her that she would be praying for her to make the right choice about her baby. The next day she ended up going in to the clinic at Open Arms because she thought maybe they could help her to make that choice. Even after talking with them she was undecided. Two weeks later, with her mom's support she made up her mind. She went to Planned Parenthood for an abortion. When they did an ultrasound to verify the age of her pregnancy, they determined that she was 13 1/2 weeks along. The cutoff for abortions at Planned Parenthood is 13 weeks! God's timing is amazing! She was unable to get the abortion. She returned to Open Arms where she has heard the Gospel as well as receiving encouragement and training for her new role as a mother. Through her training she has earned credit to use in their baby boutique on items she will need. Her baby boy is due in four weeks.
The next simply fabulous part of the event was the featured speaker, Ryan Dobson! Yes Thee Dr. James Dobson's son! He was an amazing speaker, powerful and fun. What a treat!
It is just so amazing to me to see God so passionately at work in the lives of these unborn babies, their moms and dads and the volunteers at pregnancy centers like this one. He cares. Not only does abortion kill a baby, a person, just like my four little monkeys, it devastates the lives of his or her parents. It is NOT a medical procedure any more than offing your toddler because they are cramping your lifestyle is a medical procedure. Our youth are being brain washed by Planned Parenthood to believe that treating the "problem" of pregnancy with the "procedure" of abortion is the same as treating the "problem" of a wart with the "procedure" of freezing it off. I would like to say that my children, and any other child, are not likened to a wart. They are not a "problem" or "diagnosis". They are a blessing of the Lord. They are made in His image. They are an opportunity to see God, to know Him in a way that would not otherwise be possible. And they are, just like you and I, the apple of His eye.

ReplyDeleteGo check out my blog - you are invited to the brunch I am having!
ReplyDeleteWhat is really scary, is I was watching a program one day and babies can remember things in the womb as early as four weeks...think about that when people say it is not a person till birth.
